15 Cafe Brunch Spots in Ho Chi Minh City

On the weekend, it doesn’t get better than a plate of pancakes with maple syrup, crispy bacon and a hot cuppa’ flat white at 10 am. Needless to say, I’m a fan of the breakfast-lunch combination myself and often find myself saying “Let’s get brunch”.

Whether it’s an Eggs Benny, a bowl of granola topped with fresh tropical fruit or a good ol’ traditional English breakfast with a couple of sunny-side-up eggs - here are 15 cafe brunch spots (broken down by district) in Saigon to fuel your weekend.

District 1

Godmother Bake and Brunch

For founder Linh Dang Godmother Bake and Brunch is a place where you can “sit back and relax after a long hard week”. While many restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City focus on lunch and dinner, ones that serve coffee, brunch and delicious cakes are far and few making Godmother Bake and Brunch a popular weekend destination for the city’s brunch aficionados.

Here, the space is minimalist-designed with soft and subtle pastel hues with soft warm light, creating a relaxing atmosphere perfect for a long lazy weekend brunch. Plus, it’s very Instagram-friendly. Go for the Eggs Benedict with ham, egg and Hollandaise (220,000 VND) or Godmother’s signature big breakfast with housemade sausage, bacon, eggs anyway, sourdough, avocado and hashbrowns (220,000 VND) - trust us, you won’t regret it.

On weekends, there’s even a Boozy Brunch option which includes 2-hours of free-flow house wine (white and red), beer and spirits, an assortment of pastries and croissants as well as a main and dessert for only 499,000 VND per person (from 10 am to 3 pm).

Equal parts tasty, equal parts photogenic. SOKO Cafe Bake and Brunch is a stunning pastel-coloured multi-storey space boasting floor-to-ceiling windows, gold-engraved signs and touches of greenery on every floor.

Famous for its creative and very pretty pastries such as Vanilla Bean Pistachio & Dark Chocolate Roasted Almond 3D Cube Croissant and Rainbow Pride croissants, SOKO Cafe also serves up a mean brunch menu of classics with a twist such as Sydney rosti eggs Benedict with poached egg, orange masago, cashew sour cream and Norwegian smoked salmon (190,000 VND). Try the bestseller here, an obvious menu standout - Brooklyn Lobster Roll served with deep-fried cheddar cheese and cranberry mayo sandwiched between soft brioche buns (280,000 VND).

Vegan Corner Saigon (previously The Organik House go Plant-based at Indika)

Tucked away in District 1, this rustic laidback “ruin bar” furnished with disassembled furniture, wooden tables and mismatched prints set in a generous alfresco area (indoor seating is available) offers an inexplicably cool vibe. Don’t be deceived though as its brunch menu reads fairly sophisticated with plant-based alternatives of your favourite dishes using Smart Bacon and Seitan.

Here, you can find vegan bagels, sandwiches, falafel wraps, pizzas, tacos and pasta as well as desserts - Vegan cinnamon roll buns with salty caramel and praline nuts (120,000 VND). On Sundays, they also offer a brunch platter for one (230,000 VND) which includes Pasta with Pesto Organik salad, toasted bread with dips and pickles, pumpkin salad, tofu and veggies, arancini and mushroom croquettes. Best part? the brunch platter is also available for delivery for those lazy weekend lie-ins.

For a more ‘Breakfast with Tiffanys’-Esque brunch, make a visit to Vintage Emporium. Its interiors of mostly vintage furniture, dark reclaimed wood and checkered tiles with a quaint outdoor garden, make it perfect for cosy brunch catch-ups and family-friendly get-togethers.

True to its form, the brunch menu is nothing short of sophisticated using largely high-quality homemade ingredients. Try the French toast with homemade coconut chia ice cream, caramelised mango and maple syrup (150,000 VND) or Eggs Benedict with poached eggs, honey ham, and hollandaise sauce sandwiched between homemade English muffins (170,000 VND), with a hot cup of latte - you can’t go wrong.

One of my personal go-to’s for cinnamon buns and pastries, Bay Bistro is a cosy 25-seater spot off the main road in Thao Dien helmed by Chef Max Wiersma. Here, simplicity is key with soft white walls, floor-to-ceiling windows with natural sunlight filtering through, earthy wood tones and turquoise blue accents for a playful contrast.

For brunch, we recommend the Croque-Marcel made with sourdough bread, sunny-side egg, speck ham, smoked Comte cheese, Emmental cheese and truffle béchamel espuma  (180,000 VND) or Hangover grilled cheese with orange and onion jam with a side of bacon and tomato soup (200,000 VND). Don’t forget to check their newer and bigger location in Thao Dien!

To accompany the ‘Bali-esque’ experience, L’herbanyste serves up moreish good-for-you vegetarian dishes from pastas, Beetroot and spinach crepes (155,000 VND) and Tofu Scramble & Mushroom Toast (165,000 VND). The cherry on top of the cake is definitely the vegan desserts - Snickers and Twix bar (115,000 VND), and the best part? They’re also gluten-free and sans refined sugars.

Aalto

A popular go-to for Saigon’s coterie of who’s whos and industry stalwarts, Aalto’s menu is where creativity meets classic. In layman’s terms, the food is homemade from the flatbread to cinnamon rolls and labneh and bears visible licks of char from the restaurant’s outdoor wood-fired oven grill.

Try the Hashbrown Benedict topped with smoked salmon, nori and egg (380,000 VND) or Plum French toast (340,000 VND) - the obvious menu standout with a generous dollop of labneh sprinkled with walnuts. As a special item on Aalto’s menu, you can also order the Chilled seafood platter, featuring oysters, clams, shrimps, whelks, lemon and aioli (890,000 VND) - you can also add dressed crab or caviar (30g) if you’re looking to treat yourself.
